Vintage 1940's Howard Greer of Beverly Hills Rare Black Sequin Dress , originally uploaded by Posies For Lulu.
I just have to share this Lovely "Howard Greer of Beverly Hills" 1940's vintage black dress! It is absolutely stunning! It is made of fantastic vintage rayon, and has the most lovely sequin deco neckline! It looks to have been all stitched by hand! Howard Greer dresses are rare and very hard to find for sale!
Howard Greer was a Hollywood fashion designer and a costume designer in the Golden Age of American cinema. In 1925 Greer was hired as chief designer for Paramount Pictures. Greer opened his own couture operation in Hollywood in 1927, where he designed custom clothing for the stars until his retirement in 1962. His best known work includes dresses for Katharine Hepburn (1933) and "Bringing Up Baby", Rita Hayworth, Mary Pickford Irene Dunne, Ingrid Bergmann, and Marlene Dietrich.
In 1946, Greer started a ready-to-wear line. For the first two years they produced both custom and readymade garments but then went exclusively ready-to-wear. To maintain the air of exclusivity, garments were sold in selected stores around the country – usually one per city. A significant amount of finishing continued to be done by hand.
This unique dress from the late 1940's has one of his signature tapletop necklines of sequin and nude mesh! Just stunning! It fits like a Large.
The tag reads: "Howard Greer Beverly Hills"
Dress Measurements are:
